Paul gave instructions in 2 Timothy 4:2-5 that we try to fulfill in every service.

2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

5 But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.

I find it interesting that the word “sound” in verse 3 is derived from the Greek word hugiaino (hoog-ee-ah’-ee-no); to have sound health, i.e. be well (in body); figuratively, to be uncorrupt (true in doctrine):

The King James Bible translates that word as to “ be in health, (be safe and) sound, (be) whole (-some).”

I also find it interesting that the word “itching” in verse 3 is derived from the Greek word
knetho (knay’-tho); from a primary knao (to scrape); to scratch, i.e. (by implication) to tickle:

Sound doctrine is teaching that produces wellness and wholeness in body, mind, and spirit. This is vastly different from the type of teaching that “tickles” the ear and gives the people what they want or expect to hear.

At Gracepoint we focus a lot of time and attention on matters of the heart. We teach how to overcome jealousy, envy, rivalry, bitterness, wrath, hatred, variance, self-righteousness, and countless other things. The Word is rich, alive, and applicable to transforming lives to please the Lord. We also offer alternative classes on topics such as parenting, finances, leadership, and so forth.

The youth have really enjoyed diving into the Word via an open Bible study and discussion format. They study relevant topics and are free to ask questions. They not only have their Bibles open, but they also have PC Bible and reference programs on multi-media screen for viewing by all. It is our goal that our youth are equipped and able to live a life that overcomes the environment that the world is trying to impose upon them.

Truly as the Psalmist said in Psalm 107:20-21:

20 He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.

21 Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!
